About Me
I’m Dr. Kelly Carroll, founder of Kelly Carroll College Consulting. I provide thoughtful, individualized college admissions guidance for students and families who are looking for clarity, structure, and strategic support throughout the college planning and application process.
Higher education experience
I bring more than 20 years of experience in higher education, student development, academic advising, and admissions review. Over the course of my career, I have worked closely with both students and parents in a wide range of college and university settings, including Stanford University, UC Davis, UC San Francisco, Saint Mary’s College of California, and Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.
I have also reviewed undergraduate applications as a UC Berkeley Admissions Evaluator, completing more than 5,000 holistic application reviews. This experience gives me a deep understanding of how applications are read and how students can present their experiences, strengths, academic interests, and personal qualities in a thoughtful and compelling way.
My advising style is calm, organized, responsive, knowledgeable, and strategic. I help students and parents understand the admissions landscape, make thoughtful choices, and build applications that are as competitive as possible while staying true to who the student is.
I know the college process can feel overwhelming for families. Part of my role is to bring clarity, structure, and reassurance so parents feel informed and confident, while students feel supported, encouraged, and empowered to take ownership of the process. Families can expect clear communication, practical guidance, and a high level of responsiveness throughout our work together.
Working with Kelly was a lifesaver! She was incredibly thoughtful, answered all of my questions, provided valuable feedback on my essays, and made the entire college application process feel much smoother and less stressful. I truly can’t say enough great things about her — this process would have been far more frustrating without her help and guidance.
A student-centered approach
I believe the college process should help students better understand their strengths, values, goals, and the environments where they are most likely to thrive. My goal is to reduce stress, bring clarity to the process, and help students put their best self forward with confidence, purpose, and authenticity.
Guidance and credentials
I work with students on college list development, application strategy, essays and personal statements, UC and CSU applications, Common Application support, transfer planning, extracurricular and summer planning, and preparation for a successful transition to college.
I hold an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from UC Davis, an M.Ed. in Counseling in Student Affairs from UCLA, and a B.A. in Sociology from UC Santa Barbara, with minors in Education and Applied Psychology. I also earned a Certificate in Independent Educational Consulting from UC Irvine and am a member of the Higher Education Consultants Association.
At the heart of my work is a belief that every student has a story worth telling. I help students reflect on their experiences, recognize their strengths, and approach the college process with confidence, strategy, and authenticity.
